Songhee Lee s’est naturellement tournée vers le monde de la photographie dès son plus jeune âge, influencée par les activités artistiques de ses parents, notamment la photographie et le journalisme. Après la maladie de sa mère, la photographie est devenue bien plus qu’un simple acte consistant à capturer des instants : elle s’est transformée en un médium unique permettant de transmettre des émotions et du sens.
Pour elle, la photographie est un moyen de laisser des traces qui resteront gravées à jamais, même dans les limites du temps fini. Les photos qu’elle a prises avec sa mère sont devenues un support pour capturer leur existence et le temps qu’elles ont partagé, offrant une façon unique de les immortaliser.
Son désir de retenir le temps va au-delà de l’immortalisation de l’existence : il s’étend à une confrontation avec l’existence, l’intériorité et les émotions complexes de l’humanité. En explorant le spectre émotionnel inévitable de l’être humain — de la nostalgie à la douleur — elle capture des autoportraits, des paysages et des moments qui semblent immobiles mais en constant mouvement, révélant d’innombrables récits dans une seule fraction de calme.

Songhee Lee was naturally drawn into the world of photography from an early age, influenced by her parents' artistic endeavors, particularly in photography and journalism. Following her mother's illness, photography evolved beyond merely capturing moments—it became a profound medium for conveying emotions and meaning.
For her, photography serves as a way to leave behind traces that can be remembered forever, even within the confines of finite time. The photos she took with her mother became a medium to encapsulate their shared existence and time together, offering a unique way to immortalize it.
Her yearning to preserve time transcends the mere act of immortalization; it transforms into a confrontation with existence, the inner self, and the complex emotions of humanity. By delving into the inevitable emotional spectrum of humans—from longing to pain—she captures self-portraits, landscapes, and moments that appear still yet are ever-moving, embedding countless stories within a single moment of calm.
